Comparing characters

The main character Georgia and her friend Jasmine are alike in many ways. Jasmine is also boy crazy like Georgia. They both go to the fruit store often just to see the two guys that work there. They make out little plans to start conversations with the boys. They both also have no confidence in there self. They are also different in many ways. Georgia seems to have a little bit of an attitude problem while jasmine is a little bit more calm and enjoying her teenage years a bit more then Georgia. Georgia acts as if she has no emotions and if she has any there always angry or sorrow feelings. I don't see how she has any friends with her personality. She doesn't give off a very good vibe. Maybe thats the real reason none of the boys pay her any attention. Unlike Georgia Jasmine has great attitude maybe thats why she gets more attention.

character change"big mouth & ugly girl"

My favorite character in Big Mouth & Ugly Girl is Ursula. She changed dramatically throughout the book.First she was very shy in grammar school ,everyone teased her and was cruel and treated her wit no respect. But when she got to high school it was little different. She was always known as Ugly Girl, but she became star of the basketball team. She only had one friend. The other kids only talk to her during basketball practice and games.I would hate to be treated like that. One time the teasing got so bad that she thought of even committing suicide. That's a terrible thing to think about.Ursula is nice girl and goo friend in the inside. She just need someone to help her bring it out.Even Ursula family does treat her with respect. All they care about is her little sister.By the middle of the book Ursula meet this boy named Nick was the only person who was kind to her.Nick became Ursula's first boyfriend.Nick was a jock he wanted to make Ursula popular. He felt sorry for her and wanted to get to know here.He surly made her popular.

Conflict in BIG MOUTH & UGLY GIRL

The conflict didn't really pull me in.It wasn't that exciting the only thing that happened was a boy named Matt D. made a bomb threat in school at the lunch table. He was taken from the lunchroom in handcuffs and was questioned in the principles office. he said it was just a joke. The police said you shouldn't kid around like that didn't really pull me in the book.I think the author should of had made the main conflict more interesting in teens eyes.I really dont know what i think will happen next.Matt was very afraid.Matt is a dishonest persno everyone canbe dishonestat least once in there lives. But Matt lies alots.Matt can handle his problems well for a teenager.

A Hustlers Wife By. Nikki Turner (style)

The genre of this book is drama. I am familiar with this genre because usually the books that I read on my spare time or any time is a drama. The events in this book are very sad and dramatic because the lives of the characters seem to be disturbed and troubled with arguments, fights, hard decisions, and trying to get past the problems of serving jail time, and losing someone you love to the law. In any type of way the book does not break the mold. Usually I seem to recognize this type of drama because people that I know also read these type of books.

My Final Thoughts On "Sold"!!!!!!!

While I was reading the book Sold there were various things I'd disliked about the book.I didn't like how Lakshmi was being treated. She was being lied to,tricked, and mistreated. There were times when Lakshmi was being taken advantage of and she never stood up for herself like she should have. Many people would tell her things to confuse her,all she wanted to do was help out her family so she did but it was in an inappropriate manner this made me fill so sorry for her.Although there were things that I've disliked about the book, I liked reading it.It was quite interesting.Once I started reading the book I didn't want to stop,it really caught my attention and made me feel for the character.
I don't think it is possible to find a book interesting without enjoying it.To me it have some similarities although it have different meanings and some may think it don't go together. If I would have read it when I was younger maybe even older I would've enjoyed the as I did now.If I had to reduce the size of my book collection I would definitely keep this book because it is one of my favorites.

Angus thongs and full-frontal snogging-conflict

When I first began reading this book Angus thongs and full-frontal snogging I felt like i had to force my self to read the story. Once i really got into the book it became more interesting to read. I think it was boring how she started the book talking about her annoying uncle and father. Also how she starts off complaining, once i start to read more I just get use to the fact that thats just the type of person she is a winer. Im no writer but I wouldnt recommend starting off a book like Louis Rennison strted this book off. It makes me not even want to finish reading this book. After about the first few pages the plot starts to graps my attention. The one thing that really grabs my attention is a list that the character Georgia made, its called "There are 6 things very wrong with my life"
1. I have one of those under-the-skin spots that will never come to a head but lurk in a red way for the next 2years.
2. Its on my nose.
3. I have a three-year-old sister who may have peed somewhere in my room.
4. In fouteen days the summer hols will be over and then it will back to stalag 14 and. Oberfuhrer Frau Simpson and her bunch of sadistic teachers.
5. I am very ugly and need to go into an ugly home.
6. I went to a party dressed as an olive.
This list grabed my attention.

A Hustlers Wife By. Nikki Turner pgs.1-152

The characterization in the story was very realistic and seemed that everything in the story can happen in real life. Every single event that happened in this book was explained in a very logical and realistic way for the reader to get into the book while they are reading it. During the times I was reading this novel I felt that everything I was reading was happening right in front of my eyes. The way the events and characters in the book seemed realistic was how the arguments and fights where very well described and the lives of the characters where explained in a way of the real life of a person living in the real world.
I would not like to meet any of the characters because from my prospective they seem like neither one of them know how to act anywhere, especially in the public eye. But there is one reason why I would want to meet them because they are real in what they do or say. So with this reason I like the characters that are in this piece of novel.

comparing characters

In my story "Big Mouth Ugly Girl" the main character ursula which who tells the whole story. Is very different then me.She is very shy, loves sports and gets picked on everyday. Unlike me I'm funny, giving, and considerate and fits in very well with others. We are the exact opposite.I would like to meet Ursula to give her a makeover. I think people act like her because of the people be mean to them all there lives. If she lived wit my mother she would be polite.Ursula loves basketball thats bout the only thing she's good in actually she great at it.I wish I was good at a sport so I can get a scholarship.

A Hustlers Wife By. Nikki Turner pgs.1-120

If I were to ask the main character Yarni a question it would be, do you love all the men you are being in relationships with or are you dating them for the love of the money? The question I would ask the author would be, do the characters in this story relate to anyone in your life or relate to your life in any way at all?
The reason I asked the main character this question is because throughout the story she has been through over five different relationships ever since her husband went to jail. It seems like she is only dating these different men for their money because I believe all that she sees when she looks at them is dollar signs. I'm not saying she's a gold digger or anything it's just that she needs to find someone she loves and not to love them because they have money in their pockets.
I asked the author this question because it seems that she is pertaining the story to her life or the life of someone she knows. I say this because the way she says and puts things in the story it sound realistic and true.

The Allure of the West

Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer, pgs 144-207 (end)
Death of a Salesman, Arthur Miller, pgs 1-97

So, I finished Into the Wild and started rereading a book that I'm studying with my AP Literature class. As I read the first act of the play I was struck by the similarity between Chris McCandless and many of the characters from Death of a Salesman. The main character of this story, Willy Loman frets over a missed opportunity to accompany his older brother to Alaska to make money. Instead he is 60 and stuck in a dead end sales job. Interestingly enough, Willy's father abandoned him as a child to also seek fortune in Alaska. In a weird twist, Willy is disappointed in his son Biff because he is constantly seeking work outside of the norm of the day. He's worked on cattle farms and other jobs that Willy does not respect. Biff explains that he likes these jobs because he's not stuck inside at a desk and can be out in the open air.

In American culture the west has always been symbolic of the open frontier, a vast unexplored wilderness where a man could make his living outside of the realm of laws and societal constraints. It's interesting that these two books, written 50 years apart, have such similar themes.

Does anyone else know of any characters who seek a life outside of society? Anyone have a friend or family member who constantly wants to go out on the open road? What do you think drives a person to feel like this?

The Plot Of The Story Definitely Pulled Me In!!!!!!

I've enjoyed the plot of the story. It truely pulled me in and I would definitely recommend the book to anyone who loves reading books that make you wonder and don't want to stop reading the book once you pick it up.The way the author described the character and the predicament that she was in.Although I was kind of upset about how the character was being treated,I still loved the book because it gave wonderful examples and kind of made me visualize the setting and what Lakshmi and her family was going through. The plot of this story was better than the last few books I've read except for one.

Characters Motivation

I think Georgias motivation would have to be her looks. She thinks she is ugly so she tries harder to be some one she is not. Georgia is motivated to get attention from the boys. I guess she thinks if they dont pay her any attention she must be ugly. In my opinion George is motivated for all the wrong reasons she should try to be going after a goal like higher grades, trying a new hobby. BOYS BOYS BOYS all that matters to Georgia, she isnt happy unless she is getting attention from the males. The more I read the story I do see the character grow. Georgia starts tofocus more on her school work which is motivating her to do betters things with her life.

Comparing My Reactions To The Character

The character Lakshmi didn't react to the situation as I knew I would. Lakshmi and I are different as far as dealing with people of all ages. She was just letting people run over her telling her what to do and how to act. To me she wasn't being herself, in the story Lakshmi knew what she doing was wrong. She didn't stand up for herself like she should and certainly not how I would do. She also was being spit on and being taken advantage of and yet she never tried to stand up for herself. If that was me I would never let anyone spit on me and let them get away with it.I also wouldn't let anyone take advantage of me and make me have low self-esteem.
I didn't really find Lakshmi actions troubling,I just felt sorry for her and wondered why would she let people make her go against her will and do things she believe is wrong. To me she's not being true to herself and if you cant remain true to yourself then you cant be true to and with other people.I don't think Lakshmi actions are consistent with her character because she doesn't want to sleep with strange man and she also doesn't want to stay at that place. She know it's not a way for a young lady to act and carry theirself. The only reason why she's still going on with this is to help out her family SO SHE'S BEING TOLD!!!!!!

My Point Of View On The Character

Lakshmi is a real and believable young girl. She stayed true to her self no matter what the situation was. Everything Lakshmi was told she believed even the owner of the organization Mumtaz. Lakshmi knew what Mumtaz was doing was wrong but she still believed everything Mumtaz told her about paying off her debt to help her family and if she get thrown out into the street she will get beaten badly and the men will make her walk around naked. I can relate to some of Lakshmi's predicaments. Like being told something and I'll believe them but come to find out it was a lie. Through my 17 years of living family, friends, and just people around me have told me something or have promised me something and I would believe them but I would get disappointed in the long run. I have also been tricked into doing something or people would just try to have me believe that something I believe is wrong is right.
Lakshmi reminds me of myself and other people by being confused, mistreated, and tricked to a certain extent. Experiencing these features is depressing in a way because after a certain period of time you feel like you can't trust and rely on nobody. You can put all your trust in someone and they'll hurt you without you even noticing right away.

My 1st Response on "big mouth ugly girl"

Oh my God this book is the most funniest book I ever read. The teens in this book are ridiculously mean to the other nerdy kids. But I think its funny. Stacey and her friends talks a lot of stuff about the kids in Grenoble high school. Stacey's mother tries to tell her that being mean to others will soon effect her and her friends. Stacey is very hardheaded.
Stacey is a very selfish, hardheaded teen. Unlike other teens she goes through a series of problems. Sometimes I feel bad for her. I see why she picks with the other kids. The setting takes
place in a rural area. Very quiet, grassy area, everyone knows everyone.I would hate living in this type of place I don't want people knowing me but that's just me I don't know about others.
I do find the main character very realist because i know alot of people like Stacey. Many of the teens at my school act like Stacey. They go through problems just like her.

My First Response On "Sold"

The book is very interesting I would highly recommend it. In the story Lakshmi is very confused and being mistreated. Mumtaz is telling Lakshmi if she don't do what she say she will throw Lakshmi out on the street so she can get beaten by the strange man then walk around naked. Lakshmi is also being mistreated because one of the other girls saw her with her customer so she told Lakshmi see better not see her with her coustomer again or else.
All throughout the story Lakshmi have been confused about various things. She still don't know exactly what's going on, and two different girls keep telling her things that make scared and wonder. One of the girls told her her family will never see the money that she is working for. All the money Lakshmi work for goes to Mumtaz which is the owner of the organization. The other girl is telling Lakshmi in order to leave she must pay off her debt toMumtaz by doing any thing nessary. So the girl teach her tricks to get and keep customers and to also give her extra money (rupees). Learning this Lakshmi have her regular customers that keep coming back and Lakshmi is still seeing one of the other girls customer and not caring what she say,do or think.

A Hustlers Wife By. Nikki Turner pgs.1-98

Throughout the story the main character Yarni and her life changes dramatically. From where she starts in life as a teenager was very good. She was an honor student, she had a good relationship with her mother, she lived in a high class neighborhood where there were hardly any African Americans living there except just a couple including her and her mom, and she was also the captain of her cheer leading squad at school. This was the life she lived and she didn't care what anyone thought of it either. All of this changed when she met the young man she met through her friend. While she was with him her life started to change and she didn't notice it until she got older. A couple years into their relationship they both got married and she was still only a teenager.Years later there was a breaking point of both of their lives. She started getting out of control, and her husband Started telling her just anything. She started going out partying and dating only for the money from men that she knew had a very high budget. So far her life went from the girl who knew to much to the ghetto girlfriend of the neighborhood drug dealer. The point of this is the life of someone can change in a flash due to the people you can just be hanging around with.

Angus Thongs And Full-Frontal Snogging Confessions Of Georgia Nicolson Page 1-140

The book angus thongs and full-frontal snogging confessions of Georgia Nicolson by Louis Rennison has a character by the name of Georgia who is a teenager living in England. Georgia is a character that definately seems real and believable. She has the same so called problems as most teenager girls have (boys, looks, school, parents, etc). I cannot relate to this charater in anyway so far she always has a problem can never be saticfied with her life or looks. She went as far as plucking her eyebraws completely off by trying to get the perfect look. Georgia also thinks she has a big nose so she wont smile cause her nose will spread all over her face. This girl is the definition of no self confidence. This charater doesnt remind me of any one I know. I dont think i would want to know any one like this they might start bring me down with them.

Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer Pages: 1-144

So, the book I'm reading is about this early twenty something kid who
is pretty alienated. It's a nonfiction book, and since I haven't
summed it up yet in a previous response, it's about a kid who is
searching for meaning in life and seeks this meaning by exploring.
At the beginning of the book we find out that he ends up dying in the
middle of Alaska to exposure.

Even though I think I'm supposed to, I'm having a really hard time
identifying with the main character, Chris McCandless. I look at
the cover and there's this picture of Emile Hirsch portraying
McCandless. He's a good looking kid, and he's kind of sitting in this
"top of the world" type dominant pose. The author seems to really
identify with the character, and spends a couple of chapters relating
his own similar experiences. And McCandless is seemingly the rugged,
individualistic antihero that Americans celebrate.

But, I can't get into him, and I think it's because I'm a parent
now. I see the way this kid abandoned his parents, went off into the
middle of nowhere, took chances, didn't write home, and espoused his
theories on the way life works to whomever would listen, and I'm
like, "dude...call your mom, dad and sister. They're worried sick."
The kid is kind of portrayed as this spiritual, deep Thoreau quoting
prophetic figure, but he just strikes me as naive and self centered.
I don't know what I'd do if I was his parent. I would be devastated
if my son took off after graduating college and just disappeared.
It's really rather sad.

(By the way, if you're wondering, this response is to the 7th bullet
under character. The total length of this response is 279 words. I
summed up the book to start because I figured you'd need that
information, but then I really tried to stick to talking about
whether or not I identified with the main character and why.)

My First Post

The book that I am reading is called Sold by Patricia M.This book is about a young girl being taken from her home to go away from the mountains to be sold as a prostitute,at first she was convinced that she was going away with her aunt to go help her family out as far as food and money for a new roof. But she found out that she was being pursued as a prostitute.
One thing I do not like about the book is Lakshmi was lied to and beaten because she did not want to sleep with a man she didn't know. She wanted to be with her aunt but her aunt sold her to a man who sold her again, and when Lakshmi asked what was going on the unknown man lied to her again and told her not to worry just call him her uncle husband.

A Hustlers Wife By. Nikki Turner

The book that I am reading, "A Hustlers Wife", is about a young girl who met the one she would love forever no matter what. But when he gets arrested for something that he didn't do, her life turns upside down. Through violence, bad relationships, and and the love she had for almost everyone starts to fall down the drain. The life of a young African American girl caught up in a drug dealers life can be so hard on her.this is the type of life I do not ever want to live.

My 1st post

The book I am reading is called Angus Thongs and Full- Frontal Snogging written by Louis Rennison. This book is about a young teen girl basically living the life of a teen. Going to school dealing with boys and teachers. Worring about unessary things like how to kiss how much make up to put on. The main character is so obsessed with her looks her and her friends make up a chart that judges there looks on a scale of 1-10 and let other people rate there looks.

Your 1st Post!

Today in class we will be posting to our blogs. To keep things simple, this
first post will be a kind of introductory thing. Here's what I'd like each
of you to write (make sure it is under your own display name):

1. In 2-3 sentences, give us a taste of the book. What is the title? Who
is the author? What is the "gist"? (It's about a girl who...)
2. In a separate paragraph of 2-3 sentences, finish this sentence: One
thing I like (or don't like) about the book so far is...

Welcome

Hello folks. I just wanted to give you a hearty welcome to the
blogosphere (the world of weblogs, according to my widget dictionary).

I'm going to send you more meaty information in the next few days
(right now I'm testing out the "mail to blogger" option I told some
of you about today).

But for now, I want to talk to you about grammar and conventions.
These are blogs for my English class, and I expect you to follow the
rules of standard English as best as you can. Some of our previous
rm305 blog discussions were replete with mistake after mistake. You
may IM your friends and write on Myspace one way, but on these blogs
we are going to assume a more academic diction.

Thanks for the help. If you have any questions, let me know.
